there needs to be a book written about the wrong way to set up camp. that way most people wouldnt read it and by default would have to set up the right way, instead of visa versa. because of a certian sister it was decided that the best activity we could hae would be a campout of hike EVERY WEEKEND. sadly we only manage 2 out 3 weekends. we have been all over southern utah and a little bit around the four corners area. like this one time (not at band camp... funny thing is i've never even seen the film and havent been told the joke) we got a great idea to visit the actual four corners and do cart wheels or somthing. So vanessa, rouie, jacob, and I load up our stuff in the rodeo, fill up the gas tank and head down to our friend Cary's house. she lives in blanding thats where we would spend the first night. but getting there is always the fun part. there is a sign a very big sign that says MOAB TURN RIGHT, this sign is right by the road. you cant miss it. but when I passed it asking my sister if thats my exit and she responds to some one else "no" than i just dont even worry.. till we see that great big WELCOME to COLORADO sign. yeah any way we turned around and went down the right road. Cary was so excited to see us, that she jumped in the car and told us to keep driveing, she was going to take us to a mall to vist sunshine. the mall turned out to be in a different state. but along the way we found the mythical four corners. it was fun Jacob and i played gladiator and we all sang the ring a round the rosey song.. (i fell in new mexico, i think). the mall was good. we ( vanessa and i) found a foto booth and created "increminating evidence" little did we know that all of our friends were watching us from the hall. the funnest part had to be the drive home though. sunshine came with us, and someone told ghost stories while Jacob drove. the night was dark and the roads unfimilar. it was good untill some head lights were seen in our lane and they didnt seem to change course. Jacob slowed rapidly and pulled off the road on to the sandy shoulder only to be followed it seemd by the lights ready to kill us all. luckily no one was hurt and it turned out to be an idoit police man left his lights on and keys in the truck parked on the wrong side of the road with the door unlocked... i wrote a mean letter but some other cop came and told us to "carry on home now".
in the morning we woke up and played mario cart after setting up cary's old SNES for the first time in years. i think jacob won, but i'll say that i let him. truth is i was never good at playing games but i always enjoyed it. and when he women decided that it was time to go we left cary behind and hurried on to arches nat'l park. we hiked all over the place and found a little sign that side "difficult -->" and so of course we had to walk that way. around the dessert passing people who had turned back, up the shadowed side of a very steep mountian and finaly shimming up a crack in a cave to reach our distination. you have got to love those "family circus short cuts"
